¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It sounds really dangerous, but I'm getting a 5 year old rig going, and there is so much dust in the PSU. :(

A friend of mine washed his PSU, and let it dry for a day or so, and it worked fine!

He just used normal water tho... I have some filtered stuff, so I'm tempted to give it a go myself. :D

Anyone else done this, and if so... what were your results. :)

Madness.
Obviously possible but it would take more than a couple of days to dry out properly. No way would i recommend doing it to anyone apart from an enemy.
Compressed air, a new paint brush & some gentle solvent type rubbing & no more.

I should've mentioned I've used loads of compressed air already... It got most of the dust out, but theres still loads it jammed under the PCB.

It's only an old 225w PSU - it's not the end of the world if I kill it. ;)

EDIT: I'll try taking the PCB out first... I should be able to get the dust out then!

I'll leave water as a last resort. :)

you can use water but make sure its left to dry for a long time, then use a hair dryer to finish the job off. MAKE SURE that it is properly dry, it does take ages to get all the water out of the nooks and crannies especially under the pcb is where the water ends up hiding.

if its properly dried out then it will work fine.

dno if this counts, but with my old pc my intel pentium 2, win 98, my dad got anoyed with it and threw it in the bath and it worked fine...

(we didnt know anything about pcs then, not even how to take the side off)

and we just stood it outside on the shed roof in the baking hot sun every day for 3 days, and it was fine lol..

you could hear it all inside the water at first (cause there was like no vents or anything, probibly the worst case ever) but the sun worked wonders evaporating it

and it worked! :p

I wouldnt use a hairdryer to dry it unless it was on cold or low heat.

Someone in my company spilt water on his laptop, tried to dry it with a hairdryer and ended up melting all the plastics and board.

Just buy a new one... u can get a cheap one for a tenner.

Btw your an idiot for even thinking this and then making this thread... and your mates even a bigger idiot than you.

Bye :P
