who on here is using 6950 in crossfire ?
im particularly looking at users with the cards sat right on top of each other, im after your temps please.

Yeah the reviews aren't exactly very good at the temps for 2 cards, especially some saying it's only 5-10 C apart, lets not forget they test in open case in most scenarios. However I can confirm with you in a moderately cooled case (closed) the 6970s in crossfire is unbearable. You'd have to open the case, or sit a fan right in front of it to keep the noise down.

Top GPU hit 100C and 2nd one ~ 76-80C. Noise level: beyond insanity. 6970 in xf needs 1 slot gap or water cooling.

The 6950 however is quieter. you should check out the review on hardware heaven and compare with my results. I think most reviews are being very kind to amd in the sound department.

The cooler on the 69XX is not as quiet as the one on the GTX 5XX, I've tried both. 40% fan speed on amd is about the same as 60-65% on the GTX 580.

The 6950 in XF should be just bearable. and I'm guessing top card will top out near 85-90C.

uh oh, i'll be modifying my water setup to accomadate these over the weekend. good job the front of my pc is next to a window, will just open that a little and let the subzero air flow in.

as i thought, not looking good at all then
whats the safe max temp on these cards ?
antec1200 is more than adequate for cooling wouldnt you agree ?

6950 is cooler and quieter, bear that in mind. But the fan on it's the same, and no offense to AMD, it's not as quiet as Nvidia's "same" vapor chamber.

The cards can go upto about 110 and still be safe. there is no way I'll even consider the cards if they go into the 95+ range. fan noise will be like a hair dryer (in XF)

you need someone whom has the reference 6950's in XF or a trustworthy site that has reviewed them. Most of them don't even mention the noise, it's crazy. Make sure to add on ~5C as most of them test the mobo in the open in no case in winter. I've just given you what I know about the 6970s.

Quite shocked by this, always thought ATi had the lead on temps and noise...

Been playing a couple of days now with xfire 6950s next to each other. At max load there is a 10-12C difference between the master and slave card (master being around 92C). As for noise, it's not that bad, comparable to my 4870x2 at full load, maybe a little quieter.

I was a little shocked at the temp difference but to be honest I've had no issues and have been gaming a solid 10 hours each day on my time off :D

I'm monitoring my temps etc via AIDA64 in realtime via the G15 LCD

try running an intensive game yet?

Heaven, crysis? bbc2? all maxed out.

If the sound is still fine, then 6950s nothing to worry about.

Not really suprising if you look at the TDP and how much power these are drawing - its not hugely different to the 5x0 cards.

paradiso

what case have you got ?
ive just mailed you via trust

Akasa Eclipse 62

I had xfire 2900xt's before the 4870x2. The xt's were like jet engines, the 4870x2 wasnt that bad and these are even less so, but it all depends on what your used to I suppose.

wow i have never seen a card get that hot b4 even in my arctic cold room id stay away from them now :).

Is there a so called "best x fire pairing" i was googling away and i see a lot of people seem to go with the 4x series when x fireing and seem to get good results, from what i have red the 5850's in x fire is also meant to deliver good performance. What would you say is a minimum res thats should be used for x fire?

Oh dear! Looks like xfire 6950 is out....
Thats some poor feedback..
How can amd make a card that goes two steps forward and one step back?

I used 2x6950 on air I played BC2 at 855/1355mhz around 55% fan.
I use headphones so any sound from fans never bothers me.

Main difference was master card was in my system around 20c more hot.
I got a asus essence sound card on top and a harddrive controller card in bottom, so its not like its open space around them.

I use a coolermaster 840 atcs chassi.

I put them under watercooling due to me always like maxing cards out for maximum value ;)
The temp now is 40c master and 33c slave idle.
I use a old waterblock on the top card so I guess it isnt as good as the new one. (mcw 50 like 7 years old)
