My system specs

AMD64 3700 overclocked to 2.7ghz
ATI 1900XTX
2 gigs of ram
19inch monitor 1280x1024
535watt Enermax PSU

I'm curious to know if anyone has a 8800GTS in a single core system. I'm currently looking to upgrade, but dont really want to splash out on a Core2 system (cpu, ram and mobo) just yet. I mainly play BF2142 and looking for some more FPS.

Thanks for any input

Hmm... is BF2142 not running smooth then on your system?

I've got nearly identical specs:

P4 3.0E / 2Gb DDR2 400 / 6800GT 256 / 19 " monitor - 1280 x 1024

and it runs quite smooth, that's without anything overclocked!!

dont see why you would want to at that res tbh

Because its a hell of a lot faster than anything else even at 'that res', plus image quality benefits, Dx10 next year etc.

There are still some games that work those cards pretty hard, like Fear or Oblivion.

I had the demo running for a while on an X1900-XT-X - run with incredible ease, Frames hovering around 90 . My single core CPU was faster though, and was running at same res as you. This game actually runs non-too-bad , on my X850XT :)

What 06 marks do you get on that 3700? just curious

Yeah but Bf2142 isn't one of them. The game runs perfect on full for me with dual core @ 2.8Ghz and Single core 3700+ @ 2.85Ghz. X1900 stock and overclocked so I see no point.

I just got a new monitor and it's at 1600x1200 up to 1920x1440. At these resolutions is where ATI hiccup a little compared to G80 and so it should as it's half the power.

So if your staying at 1280x1024 then I'd wait till after R600 is released next year and see what happens to the prices before upgrading. The G80, refreshed G80 and the R600 will be available and you'll have a clearer picture then with amazing cards to choose from.

There is no difference in most games between a single and a dual core processor at the same speed. Go for the GTS.

He may want to game with vsync enabled + lots of AA/AF applied and keep the frame rates at a near constant 60fps

Someone boasted about having 90fps but the tearing would do my head in!
