After 8 years, the inner pane of one panel smashed and fell to the ground. So lucky nobody was in there at the time.

Glass went everywhere.

How could you trust the other panels now.

I'm guessing the only option is to get a plastic roof put on?

We have a conservatory on our house, and its been standing for about 15 years now. Just about the only thing wrong with it, is the seal has gone, and there is condensation inbetween the glazing.

I'm just curious as to why it actually smashed. Did it just break under its own strain? Or did something fall on it/wind etc?

if you don't trust the others now you could get some clear safety film to put on them so if the glass breaks it shouldn't fall into the room or gives you time to get out the way as it crumbles down

We've had one for about 7 years now and had no problems with it. It's a 'pane' to keep clean but that's about it.

Op as mentioned was it shards of glass or tiny bits like a car window?

If your I novice diy type change the glass your self. A window fitter will charge you 4 times the price of the glass

I'd get polycarb or toughened safety glass immediately, depending on what you can afford right now.

Can't think what would happen with the kids around.
