Hello,

Just wondering if anyone around here has a Fiat Punto HGT or any experiences with one ?

Been to test drive this one today 54reg Punto HGT 25k miles here

Its on forcourt at £6500  can be had at internet price of £5000 though.

Been offered £1000 part exchange on my Punto Sporting 2000 reg. So brings the HGT to £4000 cash

Took the car out for a test drive and all seems well, few little things i pulled up on but nothing major. Cambelt has just been changed which is a plus costs around £400 to get that done.

Just wanting to hear people views on this car

Thanks Ben

I've driven these and the 1.4 Sportings around a track back in 2004 when I was in my prime selling these.

I was faster around the track in the 1.4 than I was in the 1.8!

The 1.9JTD Sporting is the pick of the bunch, only 100bhp but power delivery is excellent.

cambelt change is a major problem on the 5 cylinder punto engine as the engine has to be removed from the car to change it. I hope the pre-tensioners were changed and not skimped on, as the belt doesn't tend to snap but the tensioners fail, and the cambelt jumps a few teeth and then ouch...

Very tunable motor as well, head over to puntopower for more info.

What are you talking about they aren't 5 cylinder.

Please dont buy that car. I used to have a 52 plate 1.2 Sporting and the HGT is just that with a 1.8 engine in. Nothing special at all. For 5k you can buy a much nicer car thats just as quick. Clio 172 or Focus ST170?

A 54 plate is the newer facelift model, which comes with a fair bit of kit as standard, also the interior is completely different and so is the exterior styling and drive of the car.

Looked at both the 172 clio and ST170 Focus, the ones i like are all starting from £6k just to much for me.

Part ex on my Punto is £1000 and i got £4000 cash.

Will check with the garage if the pre-tensioners where changed aswell thanks for that.

/EDIT

Currently in my 1.2 i get roughly 190 miles to £20 of petrol (trip computer says 44mpg). Can anyone give me a rough idea how much £20 will give in a 1.8 engine ? parkers saying 34mpg

Dont wanna be buying private. Part exchanging my car dont want the hassel of selling mine private.

Plus them cars done 54k and 62k and both older than the fiat.

Warrenty from the garage aswell is another plus for me.

I do understand where your coming from though.
