Why are there random black dots on your pic? lol

I get use of my dads garage for working on it or if I want it in over night. It would have room for 3 cars if all the kit was cleared out. As it is there is room for 1 car, I can open my doors fully too, and there is also a ramp.

There is no such thing as a standard garage door size.

I'm also talking about width

Well you didn't say width did you?...and i can join you in the  game

And also 6'6" is the standard height of a garage door. Do a search on the net and that's what they all start at. You can't get lower unless you get one custom made.

Width wise they could be almost anything so you weren't very specific in your original question. I'm yet to find a garage that isn't wide enough to fit a reasonably sized car in...mine is a local authority one (read small) and my avant fits in fine and i have carpet on the wall :)

Having fitted and repaired garage doors for nearly five years (family business), I can assure you there is no such thing as a standard height garage door, much less a standard door.

I can also assure you that there are a fair few people that have issues with modern cars, as I replaced many doors for roller doors after people had asked for ways to get more width out of their garage.

I didn't mention height, as its pretty irrelevant for a Focus.

I think that it was obvious width was being spoken about, not only by the 6ft11 mentioned but also I don't know many cars with wing mirrors on the roof. :D

What so you thought that MikeHiow drove a Focus ST Pope Special :D

The 'standard' garage doors you speak off are the up and overs you can pick up at Wickes and other DIY places but most people these days will have them custom made, I've got an electric roller shutter on my garage which is around 3.5m wide and was sort of custom made for the garage opening.

Well Parkers suggests my car is 1991mm wide, which is about 6'6", but like I say, I'm not sure if they include mirrors, or how accurate it will be at all.

Its also worth noting that the door will have at least a 60mm frame, so thats another 2" each side at least.

The width quoted includes mirrors, at least the site I'd looked at also specced it without at about 1850mm.

As long as you get it tight to one side you shouldn't have much trouble getting out, just put something on the wall to protect the door edge. My parents find a couple of my old bike tyres work very well as they offer a bit of give rather than just using carpet. My own cars just sit out side my house in the cold :(

..and a Focus or similar/bigger sized car.

I'm currently looking at a property with a 6'11" Garage door, and curious whether I'll get my car in - the garage is currently full, so simply testing it is out of the question. Parkers figures suggest it'll fit, but I'm dubious, I'm not sure if parkers measurements include wing mirrors.
New car, new house and a new baby. You're a busy boy at the moment! :p

The two former are a result of the latter :)

Europa based insulated rollers are cut to length from standard 6m long parts (supplied by Europa) then assembled and combined with a motor (Somfy) and control panel or switch gear of choice, by their respective distributor.

Cool :). Where abouts are you looking for houses? Have you got a thread on your house hunting by any chance? We spend quite a lot of time on the IOW so I'd be interested to see how or if house hunting is any different for you over there.

I'm having no luck at the moment, that will be down to the fiancée being far too fussy.

We're looking Newport, Wootton, Ryde at the moment, as its where we know. I came from Newport, she came from Ryde, and we currently live in Wootton :)
