I work for a design firm in leamington Spa and we need to borrow an airbook as we are designing some products to accompany it. were looking to rent one for a couple of weeks, I realise its a long shot but as we have had no luck down the conventional hire route I figured we could try here.

surely a company can shell out for one?

why automatically assume that because we are a company we can afford to throw 2K on a laptop thats esthetically pleasing but totally useless in terms of its performance and that we only want to use for a month

the crux of it is we are a small design studio with 4 people working here, the two directors, the admin and finance manager (me) and a placement student from uni. and whilst our monthly incomes healthy, we really want to try and avoid spending money on something thats only of short term use to us.

He is incharge of Finance - surely that says it all :)

Actually I agree with him all jesting aside, laptops may not be as bad as cars - but they will loose money as soon as they are taken out of their box, also if its borrowed /rented you know you have to give it back so look after it accordingly - if its bought it could be treated with less care (certainly found this to be the case in general with anything borrowed compared to owned)

No harm in asking anyway :D

Great opportunity here for someone to buy themselves one, then rent it to these guys for £300 for the week. That would make for one very cheap Air.

I think the depreciation in value of buying one then selling it will be a lot less than the cost of renting one.

That is what i was thinking. Especially if it is only for a month and might not even get switched on.

Agreed, in fact if you get your placement student from uni to buy it using his Higher Education discount you quite possibly won't lose any money at all selling it on.
