Anyone with CoD4 (PS3) with Pipex? Error 33...

Evening all,

I've just tried signing in to play Cod4 after a few days away from the PS3 due to a gimped finger, and I'm having Error 33 (Unable to connect to Activision Matchmaking). After a little bit of research, it seems that Pipex/Tiscali and subsidiaries have apparently introduced some kind of port restriction between 6 and 11pm..? Details seem sketchy at the mo... From what I can gather Infinity Ward have changed the way the game connects to servers, and it can potentially be patched.

I've had the game since early December and had absolutely no problems up to now. The last time I played, thinking back, was probably Tuesday...
I've not tried any other games in the interim, though I did notice that the one item I DLed from the PSN update last night came down INCREDIBLY slowly...

Anyone else had problems of this ilk this week? (Particularly those of you on Pipex or any of their subsidiaries)

I am on Pipex and while can't comment on the PS3, it is working on the 360 so surely would be the same ports? Although Pipex are becoming a complete joke throttling the speeds after 6pm to a crawl really is beginning to annoy me for an *unlimited service*

I must admit, up until the past few weeks (i.e. the migration to Tiscali's datastream - which as a 'valued customer' I *should* have been informed of) I've had absolutely no problems at all. Evenings however had started becoming a joke.

Found this thread on the IW forum - the issue only affects the PS3 version. Apparently Tiscali are looking at a fix, but unable to give a timeframe (page 11).

I've been having loads of problems with my Tiscali connection blocking ports in peak hours. Have been getting the same error in COD4 on my ps3 and my p2p speeds are just a joke now.
Thankfully as of next wednesday I'll be free of Tiscali and with o2 getting a 16mb connection for only £10 a month :cool:

What are the download limits with O2? This thread could become 'Pimp My ISP'...

Unlimited, although fair usage policy (as with almost all other isp's). That won't affect me too much tho as I can use the scheduler in Utorrent for my p2p d'loads and gaming at nights will be fine.

Error 33 here and I'm with Tiscali

Service has been very poor as of late, and I will have to start looking at a new ISP.

I remember back when Pipex were great, it's a shame.

I've been with Zen for a while now, and they're a bit pricey but in the 3 or 4 years I've been with them I have never had a single problem and speeds are always top notch.
