Hey folks,

Gonna be based in Coningsby for the foreseeable future so I'm looking into areas in commutable distance with all good local amenities.

Thinking Lincoln is looking best or maybe Grantham.

My girlfriend will be looking for work too which will likely be in Lincoln or she may need to commute to Nottingham.

Any experience or recommendations of places to rent somewhere is appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: oops I'm logged into her account so reverse girlfriend boyfriend thing lol.

I suggest that Waddington/ Harmston might be a good place to start. Can easily cut across to the the A15 to head south to Conningsby. Its easy enough to get to Newark by taking the road to brant broughton, getting on the A17 to Newark, then A46 to the outskirts of Notts. And If you want Grantham you are practically on the A607 Grantham road anyway.

Traffic in these areas isn't too bad, athough there is no quick way to north of Lincoln until they build the next sections of the ring road, which can be a bit of a night mare at rush hour.... Also Waddington air show means the A607 grinds to a holt outside the air base 7-10 in the morning and 4-7 of both days of the weekend its on (early / mid july)

Thanks for reply. Think I have a lot to look into.

I'm gradually getting used to Miles of straight bouncy roads and fields all round. Just looking for a nice get place to get back to away from work, with things to do in spare time .

I've lived in Grantham and around Grantham most of my life, not a lot to see or do in all honesty but houses and general living is quite cheap. Traffic is a nightmare and the roads are terrible!

Newark is just down the road from Lincoln and the traffic isn't too bad that way. With it being close to Nottingham it may be somewhere else to look.

North Hykeham area is generally a nice place to live with all you need close by and Lincoln city centre not too far away.

I live in Grimsby but im in Lincoln regularly to see university friends etc seems good enough. Roads are a nightmare sometimes though especially if your heading out to Nottingham

I live in Hykeham, and its a nice place to live, lots of local amenities, and good schools (if that is important to you). Easy to get into Lincoln by bus (every 15min) or car and Newark is only a 20min drive away. I have commuted off and on to Sleaford for 7 years, which isn't too far away from Coningsby and the drive isn't too bad each day.

Bracebridge Heath is nice also (lived there for a while also) is convenient for Lincoln and the RAF Sites (waddington and coningsby). Not so easy for newark though, but there are lots of forces families that live in BBH as well, so that might be a consideration.

I moved to Sleaford for a number of years and it's a nice place to live. Driving to Lincoln is inky about 20 minutes and it has a direct train line to Nottingham as well.

Lived in Lincs for 30 odd years so a word of advice. Wherever You choose to base yourself there arent going to be any nice easy roads to Coningsby.
Bouncing around with fields all around looks like fun at this time of year but you'll soon realise Lincs has some of the worst maintained and downright bloody dangerous roads in Britain.
In winter they can be a deathtrap. Unlit, unsalted, with dodgy cambers, deep water filled dykes either side and unexpected ninety degree bends plus of course the surprise tractor. Add a bit of fog and/or ice and the unwary can soon come a cropper.
Personally for Coningsby I wouldn't be looking to commute further than maybe Sleaford or Boston.

I live in Lincolnshire, looking to buy a house in a few months and have to say the prices are very low for the fact that you only really live in this area if you need to (you don't live here to commute somewhere else you work like near derby and Nottingham ) plus there are no motorways and you're not on the main train line. For us this is great as first time buyers.

As for where to live, it's personal preference. Lincoln City is far to commute to conningsby and we would rather live out of the city anyway. Billinghay, Metheringham Bardney, Branston and most of the outlying villages are pleasant and cheap but quickly commutable to Lincoln for a night out. On the other hand, sleaford and Grantham are good and offer more amenities.

i'd choose sleaford too, about 15 miles away from grantham, newark, lincoln, boston.
expect it to take nearly an hour commuting anywhere as you'll always be stuck behind 40mph lorries or old biddies.
basically the closer you can live to your jobs the better, around here.

Cheers for the replies folks.

We've had a quick look into a few of these places. We'll also need somewhere with good transport links to Notts/Lincoln initially as I don't currently have a car. Some of them look promising :)

I've been approached by a few companies already regarding my job hunt who seem keen, but they've been quick to point out the lack of infrastructure in Lincolnshire and how bad the wages are :( The boyfriend (who wrote the OP) has been looking at houses for sale and it does seem relatively cheap which is at least a positive...

In which case as already said, Sleaford would be ideal due to the mainline train to Nottingham form there. Then there is also train stations at Heckington & Swineshead. Heckington is particularly good for cheap detached properties we were looking at ~£125k!
