Does anyone have any experience with Made.com furniture from a quality point of view?

Usually I prefer to order furniture made from solid hard wood (oak mainly), but I've started to look at other options as solid wood tends to look a little bland/neutral.

I've ordered the Averio coffee table & media unit from Made.com but starting to question if I've made the right choice. Mainly because both units have veneer components, with the only oak parts being the legs. Seems quite expensive considering you can get solid oak units for similar cost, although unfortunately bland in comparison to the Made.con stuff.

So people's thoughts on Made.com quality? Or does anyone have any recommendations for solid wood furniture that isn't bland natural wood colour?

My siblings and friends use Made sometimes. It's about average quality I reckon. Lots of veneer, and inexpensive oak. Looks fine.

Re recommendations: Depends on what you want really. We tend to either go to places like Judy's Vintage Markets (Some great stuff there and occasionally very well priced indeed if you are quick) - they do a lot of them in London, or use Ebay, looking for Ercol, G Plan, Heals, etc etc. We have got some fantastic pieces, but you need to be very very patient.

I can post pics of the kind of stuff we got and prices if it helps? Generally our pieces are def less than the piece you linked to and gorgeous real wood with bags of character It's all very much mid- century though, so depends if you like that look. Not a big fan of the likes of Made, Ikea, etc. personally. Big advantage of the ebay/ vintage fair route is that you can pretty much get your money back when you sell. The stuff is pretty much good for ever if you look after it. That Made.com stuff won't be worth much in 5 years when you move and want to sell it because it doesn't fit your new place etc etc.

Thanks for the recommendations Bes, if you don't mind posting pictures of the pieces you've got and rough costs that'll be great and will really help.

Looks like I'll be continuing my search. I did find some solid wood painted units but the TV unit was only 120cm wide and would be too small looks wise for 50"+ TVs.

As above, they have some nice designs and I feel OK quality for the style/price. Customer service was good when I was dealing with an issue with our sideboard.

I'm sure it was in this forum that someone gave a link to what was essentially a cheaper version of Made, might have been the same stuff, not sure. Worth a search.

I have a made.com sofa - 4 years old now, in as new condition, no sagging or wear despite heavy use and being used as a bed from time to time!

Also have a solid ash coffee table, again excellent quality with all the pieces being made consecutively to continue the grain of the wood (makes sense in my head!)

I also use swooneditions for furniture, and while I love their designs it isn't as good quality

Happy with our sofa and armchair from them. The lamps we've had are good too. Can't comment on their wooden furniture though. They're not hugely expensive considering the designs that they offer. It's just so much more interesting than the usual bland high street stuff. Veneer isn't always the devil, you just need to take a bit more care not to bash the corners or chip it!

This is worth reading.
A carpenter I knew always used to say similar. People associate poor quality with veneer when in fact some of the most expensive furniture is often veneer, particularly when doing the mirror designs (eg the top of a table where the middle is a join and each side is a mirror image of the other) and things like that
