Pro Evolution Soccer on PS3 locks online play to registered user

Something which many of us missed from Gamespot's review on PES 2008 for the PS3 is that the online registration process locks your copy of the game to your Konami account. So therefore, if you ever wish to sell your copy of the game, then the buyer will have to have your registration details in order to go online.

It's also worth noting the online registration process, which locks your copy of the game to your Konami account for online play. This means that if you ever want to sell your copy of the game, the next person will be unable to play online unless he or she has your registration details.

Noticed that part also and if your truly unable to re-register the game for online play its shocking crippled in terms of reselling. Theres no way I would want someone to get my log on details for it.

Has anyone explored this to see how accurate it is? is there a customer line maybe that you can re register the game with?

How would this work?

Surely it would mean that each disk has to be custom pressed at the factor with a disk id, or it would need to be modified by the PS3 it was first run in?

Crappy "feature" to be honest. Once I buy PES2008 I don't plan to sell it, but I imagine this will annoy those who would.

Hope this doesn't spread to other games.

well i presume it uses whatever sign in process and then only allows one account, not having the game on Ps3 i wouldn't know, as its better on the 360.

Just imagine they did this to ALL ps3 games, wasn't it mentioned right at the beginning that ps3 games would be locked to your console, prehaps this is the start, would certainly stop the 2nd hand market that they think is ruining sales, but then again it'll probably kill of the PS3 since people will just get the 360 version.

All interesting stuff

Sony wnated to do this with all games didnt they, so that there would be no "pre-owend" second hand market thus forcing everyone to buy a BRAND NEW COPY of the game.

Which is bloody daft.

PES6 was the same on PC, once you registered it then you could have 3 names on your profile and that was it.

Not sure we really needed another Pro Evo thread though

They do that and my PS3 is up for sale, i'm sure others would be too, can't see it though that would be a silly move.

PS3 registers disk ID, ties it to user account. Probably as simple as that :)

I'm pretty sure I read it was written into the blu-ray spec.

This is bad news all round and a quite scandalous (although unsurprising) development for an interative sports series.

Good god, listen up people...sony did not implement this, konami did.

So instead of the scaremongering about sony killing off the second hand market for ps3 games, be more worried about konami utilizing this method on other upcoming titles across all platforms.

Perspective people, there is enough anti ps3 crap going around without jumping to conclusions based on a title from a 3rd party.

This feature isn't on any other version.

Perspective says we should be shouting at Sony / Konami as loud as we can so they get the message this won't be tolerated. Sony are complicit; they've obviously oked it and MS haven't. If this was on an MS or Wii game I'd be making just as much noise.

I'm not really sure what your point is? Because Sony have already taken so much stick this year we should be easy on them for this?

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo (in fact any publisher, developer or anyone in the videogames industry) would most definately prefer it if all customers would buy a NEW copy of a game than pre-owned/second hand. The pre-owned market is big business for retailers like *high street competitor* and *high street competitor*.

In this case I agree with Abooie, Sony are just as much to blame as Konami are as they are both wanting the same thing. Wait for it to happen on Sony's 1st party titles and then you'll understand. As for Microsoft and Nintendo, I've no idea if either of them are planning similar things for the 360 and Wii respectively (though in theory both could probably tie games to your 360 Gamertag or Wii ID).

Still none of this "games tied to account" business is new... Steam anyone?
