Hey all,

We sold our house a couple of weeks ago, but really struggling to find something that really takes our eye in the area we are looking at currently.

Typical that after all these months we finally sell, just when all the decent houses seem to have left the market for us to buy.

Anyways, one thing we did look at out of curiosity was a bungalow. It had something about it. Pretty nice feel to the place. But already we are looking into ideas for how we might extend it (loft conversion, or extension to kitchen to allow dining room to be another bedroom).

But, anyways, that's all just background.

I'm wondering if anyone with youngish kids (or even older ones) has lived in a bungalow and whether it makes for a nice environment, or whether you miss the stairs as a means to get a bit more separation from each other.

Cheers all.

i live in a bungalow with my parents, definitely dont miss stairs, and shutting your self in a bedroom works just the same :P

Grew up in a bungalow. It was awesome. My parents still live in it and I still think it is the most awesome place I've ever lived. :)

I'm not taking the mick, stairs and storeys are overrated.

E: we got it for 100k in 93 apparently. Ended up extending it several times and built extra out buildings etc for a cost of about 200k. Recent valuations have placed the property at a shade over 500k. Not enough to make a profit after 20 years of living there, but a decent ROI.

Mum and sister lived in a bungalow for most of a year, I stayed with them for about a week in that year. Hated the place, no room, no stairs, just bungalow. Was too close for comfort.

Glad we live in houses again.

Grew up in a bungalow, would definitely want to own one at some point, currently have a 3 storey house and trust me I'd love to go back to no stairs with easy access to the roof to fix any tiles etc!!

Lots of advantages to bungalows, they don't suit everyone though but personally I prefer them.

I Plan to build a bungalow one day, Though my design has a basement thats bigger than the house you would see above ground :P

Can't really comment other than state that plenty of people seem to manage just fine (especially down under if TV shows are to be believed).

I lived in a bungalow though with no family... The design of it meant there was at least as much separation as if it was a two story house, in some ways more as there was no connecting walls/floors between the lounge and any bedroom for example so no sound leakage.

I lived in a bungalow for a year, it's strange at first but after awhile you forget stairs exist. Which then becomes a problem, because you will then try and hop up each step.

Back home houses are 1 storey, not many people had double storey houses, so I guess you could say most people I knew grew up and still live in "bungalows". I never found any problems finding space?

In the UK now we live in a bungalow, couldn't imagine trudging up/down stairs multiple times/day, moving furniture, argh.. horrid..

We have lived in a bungalow with kids for over 3 years. I love it. You don't get that annoying creaking noise from people moving around upstairs, and it's dead easy to clear the gutters/get on the roof :D

I also grew up in a bungalow, would love another one.

Brilliant places bungalow, so much potential, got five bed next to me up for sale, sadly it's 850k.
They made one slight error in it's design, but it could be over come.

I grew up in a bungalow. There was 5 of us and when my gran became I'll her and grandad moved in too. I love mums house, its still the best place ever. I don't think I could live in a house with stairs inside (I've always lived in flats since I moved out).

Dad converted the loft and garage so there's now 6 bedrooms instead of 3.

grandparents used to have one..i loved it..i loved going there. and i would love a bungalow now, they seem so convenient. not sure how id feel with screaming kids in the equation though.

Have never lived in a bungalow before. I aren't against them per se, but I do like the separation that is achieved by having two floors, especially when you have people round.

Grew up in a Bungalow (folks still living there) and would definitely be interested in one. People talk about the separation a 2 storey house provides but stick the kids at the opposite end of the bungalow and you'll never hear them!

This.

In fact you hear less noise compared to people moving around above you!

Strangely my mum and dad and sister also now live in bungalows, we have all always lived in houses before!
