Anyone work at sea?

thought i'd fire up a thread in here as im currently tied up in a Hull dockyard on the City of London Dredger. anyone else work at sea or north sea? currently a 2nd engineer onboard (with a 1st and chief above me)

i do sometimes think it'd be cool to have a motorboat but i dunno the costs involved could be expensive.
 
Yeah I work in the North sea, as a surveyor. Mostly doing site surveys and pipe/cable route surveys. Though been on a few windfarm surveys recently. Only been working for over a year now, was recruited straight out of Uni. Enjoying it so far, well enjoying the money and the amount of time off I get! Ive got a mate who's a 3rd Engineer on Cruiseships. Only been in the North Sea so far, mostly Norway and Scotland, but my company does have a few boat abroad so would be nice to get on them!
 
Hey, yeah im a 3rd on standby ship out in the forties. Looking for a new job though, this standby stuff is awful and I cant get my 2nds unlimited as we are under 3000kw :(
 
Also, a quick question to some of the engineers here. Anyone ever think about using a wee drop of Nalfleet cooling water treatment chemical in a WC system? I wanted to try it for a laugh, but I don't know how corrosive it would be.
 
Yeppers.....currently sitting out on the 2nd most northen platform in the N Sea enjoying the woes of 2 extra nightshifts.

I want to go home :(.
 
Yup! Engineer cadet, currently somewhere just East of the International Date Line, heading to Tacoma USA.

These time advances are killing me! Looking like it'll be advances every day till the US :(
 
Too many engineers! Just qualified OOW, anybody know of any companies currently recruiting would be appreciate!
 
I'm currently an engine cadet, sponsored by Wilhelmsen and training up at South Tyneside College. I'm back at college at the moment (well, on my Easter break at least) after my first sea trip from August to December last year aboard the car carrier M/V Tortugas. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at sea, and got from Singapore, where I joined, before sailing back to Europe (Piraeus, Livorno, Sagunto, Bristol, Zeebrugge, Bremerhaven, Southampton), then onto South Africa (Port Elizabeth and Durban) before crossing the Indian Ocean to Australia (Fremantle, Melbourne, Port Kembla, Brisbane), then heading upto Subic Bay in the Philippines where we were in drydock for three weeks. After that, we headed upto Japan (Kobe, Higashiharima) before finally arriving in South Korea, where I signed off and flew home from Ulsan.

Looking forward to qualifying and getting out there earning to be honest.
 
Just had a Quick look at the ETO Cadets ships. They seem pretty good, has anyone here done one? What are the benefits like and are there plenty jobs once qualified?
