As above?

If so what is your honest opinion on them, what are they like to work for? What are the management like etc?.

Are the career progression prospects good?

Reason i ask is my current job is at risk from redundancy in march so i am looking for work elsewhere but am considering using it as an opportunity for a career change.

I was looking at doing a BT apprenticeship

I am also at looking at a BT apprenticeship, and would be interested to know about BT as a company aswell.

Well if you want to be an "engineer" who comes to test your phone line then i think the main qualification is to be an utter moron who cant understand english and doesnt know what the hell hes doing, if my experiance this past few weeks is anything to go by.

BT is absolutely huge with many different 'businesses'. Someone would have to work for the particular business you will work in to get a realistic opinion.

I used to work for BT and I think that there are quite a few folks on here who do, if I remember rightly.

I worked in support for outbound operations for three years funding my way though uni. Looking back on it though, it wasn't that bad a job. As long as you aren't the lowest of the low then they treat you pretty well.

You've not said what job or anything. Ive worked for ntl and bt in the past. NTL is the better company by far but BT was easier to work for. They both seemed to have good opportunities for anyone who wanted to make an effort especially in new business areas.
Its such a massive company you could end up somewhere great or somewhere really poor, NTL is better organised. I wouldnt advise anyone to specifically focus on BT but if your offered a job..

The company I work for is ex BT, what a pile of rubbish, BT are our main customer now and due to them holding back 21cn til 2011 (what the hell are they waiting for?) I could be out of a job within the next 3-6 months.

Its not technical support or anything like that i was looking at lol

I was looking at Power technician, its all about power generation so looking after the exchanges and the generators and making sure the environment is ok (Air con etc)

You work towards NVQ Level 3 in Electrical and electronic engineering

A good friend of mine works for BT, he started as a lowly engineer, moved in broadband, and now is working in a swanky new building in Martlesham doing network monitoring or something along those lines.

He seems to enjoys it, and his salary is quite nice.

My Dad works for BT, has been with them since young so I guess he has been in a range of jobs with them. Will ask him if he can post, though no promises.

My local exchange is going 21cn at the moment, I think it varies where you are
