The Sky package (TV and BB) are in my ex's name. Being the lovely girl she is there's no chance of her contacting them to cancel as I've always paid from my account. The long and short of it is that I'd like to continue with Sky but change the package details as I don't watch the films. I can't do this so I'm stuck paying more than I need to, plus I'd like it in my name anyway.

If I cancel the DD I'll be without Sky and BB and may have trouble getting it installed again.

As far as I'm aware you can't transfer ownership to another person.

What's the solution?

Any help would be great. I can't get a sensible answer from Sky over the phone :(

Ring up and tell them that you have moved into the house and would like to continue the service?

If all else fails ring them up explain the situation to a supervisor and go from there.

KaHn

The account has been paid for, by me for 3.5 years it may look a bit suss if I say I've just moved in. Supervisors have not been helpful in the past. They point blank refuse to help without hearing from the ex. I'm not going to get someone to pretend to be her, which would probably be the easiest thing as I'm not trying to blag it.

You can, your misses will have to send a letter to sky saying she wants to transfer it.

That wont happen mate. She went over a year ago and has dropped of the face of the earth.

i do this, say she was a ex tennant and has left with no forwarding address

I'll give that a go :)

I dont think the OP wants lose of service though

Exactly. I just want the account in my name so I can change the packages. Currently paying £38 for TV and £10 for the net. I can save over £20 by reducing the TV package to the one I want.

It's not really a problem cancelling then restarting from my point of view. Sky are always **** when I ask them to do so. They know they'll get less money from me so say it can't be done and then say they need to talk to the account holder. Which will never happen. My mum said she would phone on the ex's behalf but tbh I'm not comfertable with that.

Fake a letter on your PC and forge her signature. If she is uncontactable and you pay the bill anyway, who really cares?

(Except Sky, The Law, etc, etc) :D

At which point you say "OK Fine, Virgin have been hassling me to change over to them and are doing a good deal on TV/Phone/Broadband packages - think I'll give them a call and just cancel this Sky package".

Then they fall over themselves to retain you and will do whatever it takes to do so.

That would work great if I was in an area where I could get Virgin. I could try and call their bluff but I guess they'd know?

I had this problem years back. In the end I explained it to them on the phone and they created a new account in my name and canceled the old one in the other persons name. That was the only way they said they could do it.

Unless you can try and do it via the online profile editor in which you will have to sign up with first to use.

Was it continuation of service or did you have any downtime?

I seem to remember it was a continuation of service as the old card worked up until the end of the month and the new one came pretty fast.

Not sure how the net would be affected though. I suspect downtime on that.
