Or know if there's a list of places/map or can find out....

Where the hell is / isn't covered and what speeds are available in cabled/fiber'd areas?

Looking to move house and want to find one where I can get decent speeds. As opposed to a max potential of 2.5m on BT.

i've tried this, tagging for reference.

The virgin website says i can get fibre optic internet but when i call up to pay it says i cant. (tried for the last 2 years to get it)

we get cable TV mind without a box for £4 a month for crap channels... ¬_¬ milton keynes SIGH!

stupid if you ask me...

The only option is to go to their website and type in a postcode in the area your looking at. The website is normally pretty acurate at getting it right although there are exceptions so if you really want virgin in your new house its worth getting the postcode and calling them up.

Thing is - I don't know the postcodes. I could find them out but I've decided to look at houses in postcodes they serve, rather than the other way around.

You are hooked up to analogue system which means the digital one is not available in your area.

You really need to know the house number and postcode due to there's some places that can't get it even though others in that postcode can.

Easiest thing to go is just call them - only saying as if you give them a ring they can tell what houses can get the service. I can get it but 2 houses up the road can't as they 'haven't rolled out' that far up the street!

what u could do is when viewing houses online - they often have a show on map and usually they link to a map with a postcode shown.. else u can use royal mails service of finding a postcode if u have an address.

Say your house Kings street, guess the house number and enter city:

http://postcode.royalmail.com/porta...Id=400145&pageId=pcaf_pc_search&gear=postcode

Problem with postcode finding, as said, is that several houses may share the exact same postcode, but one house a couple of yards further along the street may not have been "rolled out" to.

Unfortunately I had the pleasure of working for them when they were NTL and not Virgin Media. I used to be a Cable Modem Technician back in 2001. I would use this instead, it’s more reliable than the one NTL (sorry I mean... Virgin “Goatee” Media) http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/ this is a great link and one which is reliable. Although if you already have cable for your TV there is a 99.9% chance you will be able to get a cable modem as well.

Secondly, call 0845 840 7777 and check with VM to check your post code against their database. When I used to work for NTL I spoke to loads of people who complained their next door neighbour two doors down could get a cable modem and he could not...? it happens, it shouldn’t but it does.

My street has 17 houses all sharing the same postcode but you go by the address of the postcode not the postcode itselt.
