Long story short - I am being encouraged to create a JustTextGiving number. Basically, if I create a JustTextGiving number, and it gets £100 or more donated to it, an additional £100 will be donated by the foundation.

The reason I am doing it this way is that the charity I support is not on JustGiving, and isn't interested in signing up (It costs £15 a month) and if I was going to do any active fundraising it would be for them.

So, here is the deal - you nominate the charity, I set you up the number and you get people to donate. If you hit £100, the charity get another £100 on top. If not, your chosen charity still gets whatever you raised.

If your interested, post below (Unless it turns into the usual GD troll fest in which case trust me) - tell me which charity you are supporting, a brief description of what they do, and how you intend to get people to donate. Winner will be whoever I think has the best chance of actually raising sufficient donations to hit the magic £100. The charity must be signed up with JustGiving.

If you are not familiar with JustTextGiving please have a look at http://www.justgiving.com/justtextgiving/

I know I've posted this in GD, but could people please take a second to think before derailing it? I know its fun, but I am trying to do something good here. And yes, you WILL be able to verify the number I have set up is a legitimate just giving number that is set up for your charity, you won't just have to take my word for it.

Long story short

Forgive me if I am confused but the charity you support isn't on JustGiving, so instead you're going to (or an unnamed 'foundation' is going to) match £100 to a totally different charity that is on JustGiving, as nominated by someone on OcUK?

I'm not really sure I understand the point? Why not just support the charity you want to support in a different way?

I don't understand this at all. Do you work for a commercial company, and you'll match the donation in order to provide publicity?

Plus, this must be in breach of their T&C?

Last message was written on my phone, now I'm back at my desk I will clarify further.

The company I work for has a charitable foundation accociated with it. This charitable foundation has offered to give matched funding for any employee that sets up a JustTextGiving number and raises £100 with it. The charity I would have chosen is not elegible due to not being on JustGiving.

Therefore, there is £100 of free money that could go to a charity that is instead going to go to waste. It has to be set up by an employee to qualify. However, this needs the effort of someone activley fundraising using the textgiving number, not something I have the time to do. Therefore the best option is to set it up for another charity and have a supporter of that charity do the fund raising. Its win win in my view.

In terms of publicity - the company is aiming to give away £1 Million through this scheme (Its a big company). Will they use it for PR purposes? I honestly don't know, I'm in IT, not strategy/marketing. I wouldn't be suprised, but so what? Its still free money for a charity. As for me, what do I get? When they do the big all hands meetings and say "Well done everyone who managed to raise £100" I'll know that includes me. Other than that, I'm just trying to help someone out, because I like feeling good about myself :)

Ah I see. So it's a perk that's been offered to you by your company but the charity you support doesn't use Just Giving so you are offering the companies perk to someone else.

Gotcha! Yea, that's good of you. Hopefully someone can make use of it.
