Anyone work/worked for ALDI?

I don't understand why they make us do those 40 questions. I mean have you seen some of the people that work in ASDA?

a few years ago, I applied for a job at morrisons. And i got a letter come back saying i was to qualified for the ROLE...
I was peeded off, who are they to tell me I am to qualified for the ROLE !

Now I have a awesome deskside support job :) and getting put through my MCITP

I say Hell with the MAN!

Yes, but I got told that years ago they use to make you be self-employed etc. Want to know if it's still the same case?

I have never heard that and I doubt they are not PAYE.

Having had a quick check they are PAYE employers and you would get between £8-£9hr 24 days holiday and London Weighting if you live in London.

Apparently, at Aldi everyone does everything, there's no dedicated shelf stackers or anything, you just move around to wherever is needed. If a delivery comes in, you'll have to go back and unload. At least that's what I've heard.

Same as Express stores then!

Just a quick update. Went the the Interview and 2 hours later got offered a work trial on Monday morning just to see if I can "walk the walk".

If that goes well, then I will be offered a permanent position.

Although ALDI isn't my ideal place to work, it's a job and will help me sort my life out.

Congrats, as you say, it's a job, and that's more than what most people have in these times.

Plus you never know, it might grow on you.

You'll be surprised at what it takes to even get a job in a supermarket.

I applied to a supermarket a few weeks ago the steps were:

Make an account online.
Write a personal statement
Fill in personal information such as Name, age, DOB
Write down two references.
Do a 40 question multiple choice attitude test.
Do a 10 question test.
Do a 20 question maths test.
Fill in equality stuff.

All of that for a customer assistant role!

HR have to justify their assistance somehow! So glad I have a job in a small company and was interviewed by the relevant technical director...

Don't even know what to do now, I applied to several local stores and haven't heard anything since.

Maybe I need to think outside the box and not apply for retail jobs, but what else can an 18 year old do?

lol at the "look at all I had to do for this role" - wait until you are going for much higher up jobs, you can have a lot more than that to do. Technical tests, presentations, hours of interviews... it's what it's like!

Depends on the company though... The easiest applications I've ever had to do (and got the subsequent jobs) were for technical jobs and involved an informal interview of two. On the flip side the mundane shop assistant roles I've done were by far the most convoluted and long winded...

Technical roles my peers went for also ranged from easy and laid back to full on presentations and 50 rounds of interviews (slight exaggeration), depends a lot on the size of the company and how pretentious/in control HR are...

College/Uni? Apprenticeships?

Then again it's all said easier then done. :(

Get a job in a non chain store. Likely to be more friendly and easier going.

If it was summer I would suggest fruit picking. Find a pick your own and see if they want people for pre pickled duties (picking fruit for the shop/pay area for those that don't want to pick their own). I did it on and off from about 13 and during my A-levels with another part time job and loved it.

Aside from the highest management level (store manager and perhaps the level below) within a supermarket, most of the staff are braindead, lazy morons, to which it is a disgrace that there are so many people out of work when these lazy no hopers (who have one speed, which is **** off) don't get sacked. The lowest level management are usually morons who just worked there a long time.

This is from my personal experience in a McLoserJob, seven different Tescos (transfered for uni and went to assist at various stores) and Alton Towers. The biggest retards of the lot were the full time Stoke staff at Alton Towers.

OP: If you are motivated and work hard you will be able to move up off the bottom rung quickly. I have heard Aldi pay reasonable rates per hour too. Afaik there are far worse places to work :).

That is a bit naive tbh. I know plenty of people who work within a retail environment and are not "lazy no hopers".

Granted there are those who are "lazy no hopers" but they can be in any job.

Guess you just had a spell of bad luck. :p

Call me boring but I used to work at Tesco, both shelf stacking and on trolleys, and I loved it, anything but being on tills lol. Trolleys was easy and a lot if fun. Great for a job whilst I was at college

I really do hate these convoluted application processes for simple mundane jobs, surely a quick look up and down and chat with the applicant is enough to confirmed whether the person in capable or not?

I want to move and change jobs, I have no qualifications so will be stuck looking for basic work but I find the current process of job hunting quite disheartening, especially when you feel your competing against so many people for such a basic role and thus have to be supper enthused about a job that you really not keen on.

It seems like we're going down the American route where by the applicants have to practically show that they love and know everything about the company just to get into a basic position, I'm not sure I can fake that kind of enthusiasm, I'm a hard worker, give me any job an I'll do it regardless of whether I like it or not but these interview processes are a big hurdle for me.

Application forms annoy me, why can't companies just look through CV's instead, you're CV can tell you a lot more than a crappy application form
