I was led to believe that the answer was not as the info that's gathered it what IP addresses are downloading and to do this they can simply connect to the tracker.

PG2 will stop a known IP address or range of addresses from connecting to your PC but the evidence that you were downloading based upon your IP address will still be there.

Unless they connect to you, they can't prove that you actually transferred any data.

are wide varieties of files made public as fast as places like torrentspy?

Not as wide, but there is still huge amounts of stuff, including some stuff which I have been unable to find on torrents. And new stuff usually has a day or so delay compared with torrents.

Peerguardian is a gem but its not just the program that takes the glory, its actually the block lists that do the business.

When PG loads a corrupt/empty list, its not so good hence why you need to check the lists after an update.

There are several programs out there similar to PG but at the end of the day they all use the same blocklists.

PG is one step of protection but you need to implement the blocklists into your firewall to block you from accessing them, not just them accessing you.
