Im in the market for a sound bar. I used to run an amp and 5 speakers, but it seems the amp has died and all my KEF speakers are just a little big for my small flat now.

Is there anything out there that rivals the Sonos playbar yet? The bose attempt i hear isn't as good?

If you won't possibly invest in the sonos system then loads as already mentioned. If you will invest in the system in future though, then maybe not.

I got the soundbar as my first sonos product and I have now just ordered two play 1s for surround which I can also remove from their mounts and take anywhere in the house, which for me covers any situation, be it listening to music in my bed or when exercising or entertaining people in the kitchen.

This is how I've seen it. I can just keep building it

sonos is a mediocre soundbar tbh.

as a wireless system it's currently the best though. that is if you want plenty of speakers throughout your home with no wires apart from the plug.

yamaha make the best soundbars on the planet. i'm not talking about their £100 efforts, talking about their £500-£2000 range

Which speakers do you have? Or part ex (if you have big floorstanders) them for something like Q Acoustics 2000? Why not just go down to stereo rather than multi channel? No way I'd change from seperates to a soundbar.

they are ridiculously expensive though, £500 for a soundbar then £500 for a sub. i probably spent around half that on my full 5.1 system which would destroy it sound wise.

i then just bought a set of decent 2.0 speakers for the kitchen for £150 which again would destroy a single play speaker which again is more expensive. they are also bluetooth apt-x compatible. they only downside to them and sonos is the 1 speaker wire from 1 speaker to the other which is hidden along the skirting.

do you have enough plug sockets in your home wherever you want a speaker for example. if i wanted stereo sound in the kitchen i would need to run an extension as the other side doesn't have a socket nearby. this is another downside to sonos. people buy single speakers for rooms so are listening to mono. if you care about quality then why miss out on stereo?

You could also consider the latest Zeppelin. I have one, replaced my old one which went pop and I did a swap for the new one on the basis of a B&W trade in. It was always a good device but the new one to my ears is a move forward. Interestingly I was reading a comment by a mate today who has both the new Zeppelin and a Sonos Soundbar and his view is the Zeppelin is a significantly better sounding device. Now I would never seek to tell a person what sounds better as sound is subjective but worth a listen. I sit here right now with mine playing some chilled out tunes and it gets better with each listen. Only issue is shape and where you can fit it as it's a bigger device height wise than your typical sound bar.

Dali Kubic One is fantastic sounds proberly one of the best soundbars ive heard to Date with music and really good for films to you hear everything in music. And it doesn't have to be a soundbar either
