Anything better then Intel Core i5-4670K

Newer engines will become more threaded, and that'll close the gap between the i5 and FX8350, but it's only really going to be parity as it stands right now, mainly because you'll be at the limit at the GPU.

The safe and consistent option is the i5 4670K.

But if you want to risk the FX8350, while I don't advise it, feel free to.

Remember the i7 has 2 threads/clock/core due to hyperthreading vs the i5, so although not a true 8 core, it handles 8 threads much better than an i5.

At the moment there is no need for more than 4 cores. The next gen consoles may change that, but the efficiency of the intel architecture may mitigate that anyway on an i7 in many scenarios.

All that next gen console stuff is 100% speculation, so I would buy whatever is best at the current market.

As others have said, 4670k is the safe and consistent option with most performance in most games. Well, 4770k even better, but marginal.. and those hexacores that others mentioned.

By the way, soooooo many amd vs intel threads lately :D

"Anything better then Intel Core i5-4670K"

The 4770K, for it's performance it is well worth £250. Great bang for buck..

Pair it with a HD 7950 or GTX 670 and you will have a lot of performance for the money..

If it's 100% gaming then you would be best with the 4670K. The 4770K is not worth the additional price in my opinion as the FPS will be just about the same, unless you are running SLI/Crossfire. Even then a 4670K is very good.

The 4770K could be worth the extra, even in gaming you see nice gains in games that need a lil CPU grunt. Everywhere else nice gains.

Those BF3 scores look a bit iffy lol, super low.

The Physics score and Cinebench are fine being higher.

For the vast majority of games with a single GPU, there aren't many gains to be had with the i7 4770K.
That'll probably change in future though.
