I am about to have enough money to finally get myself a new PC. I know Sandy Bridge is coming out so we won't see new processor technology from Intel for while. I also guess we won't see newer Sandy Bridge motherboards for a few months.

However with other components is there new new tech due out in the next month or so things likd SSD, sound cards, graphic cards etc? My current PC is about 8 years old so I don't mind waiting another month or two.

In my build will be

Sandy Bridge SLI motherboard
Sandy Bridge processor
One of the latest Nividia graphics cards. Possibly in SLI.
Another lower priced Nvidia card for physics
Good sound card
SSD
SATA hard drive for storage and back ups
Blue ray recorder

I know you can always wait for new tech but it seems a shame not to wait a few weeks if new tech is due out.

I am in two minds as to build myself or get OCUK to do it lol. Does anybody know roughly how much they add on for building one?
 
Theres a rumored GTX560 out soon to replace the GTX460, Intel will have a new line of SSD's, and thats about it
 
Hi there,

May I ask whether you really need the PhsyX card and Blu Ray recorder? These items are generally not required unless you have a specific application in mind as they are rather expensive.

Also, will you be using the PC for applications that make use of hyperthreading? If not then you can save the best part of £100 and go for an i5 2500K instead of an i7 2600K.

Yes -the i7 2600K is the fastest Sandy Bridge (SB) CPU yet released. Intel will likely release similar CPUs later on with higher base clockspeeds (same architecture, same cache, same stepping, slightly higher default multiplier) - but with the unlocked multiplier of the 2600K then this is nothing to worry about. It is possible that intel will release a new stepping (revision) of the s1155 SB CPUs which usually increases overclockability and sometimes reduces power usage - however this will be many months away if it will arrive at all, so I wouldn't worry about this.

Therefore it is a good bet that the i7 2600K will be (one of) the fastest Sandy Bridge CPU until Q3 when the "enthusiast" level SB parts arrive.

However, for gaming the i5 2500K is basically just as fast as the i7 2600K but costs less, since few if any games make use of more than four processing threads.
