Ive recently noticed a vertical "shadow" on the centre of my three monitors.

It runs from about 5cm or so down from the top right hand corner "into" the monitor in about 1/2 a cm or so from the corner:

Its a definate black line approx 3mm or so thick and is more noticable now ive gone from an almost black desktop to a lighter coloured one.

A quick google brings up a lot from "bust tube" to moving speakers and seperating signal and power cables to the monitor.

I have moved the cables apart as far as they will go and moved the nearest speak to the "effect" away as far as I can.

No instant fix as some have reported but wondered if anyone had, or had heard of / seen a similar issue or any reccomendations for resolving it ?

Any thoughts or advise would be much appreciated :)

Its a Dell Ultrasharp 2407 BTW

Well i know you're all dying to know the outcome of all this :P

So ..................

It's fixxored !!! :D

Took me about 2 hours in total, but that was mainly having to strip it down and back together three times :P

So, forced the bezzel away with an old credit card

and eased it away "up" one side, along the top and then "down" the other side

Leaving to bottom until last as this is where the control panel and ribbon are (don't want to damage that !!)

Then unscewed the four screws on the back Vesa Mount

Which allowed the back of the case to be prised off

Took the four corner screws out which holds the back plate and most the "gubbins"

Prised that away

And then found I had to disconnect a series of plugs running down one side

Once that was done the surround came straight off

Once this was off you have full access to the screen !

Once filled up and you get behind the screen, you can see the offending object - the thin packing strip

Popped it back into place (tucked iy under the edge, with the help of the credit card) jobs a good un !

So put it all back together, turned it on and - backlight came on, but nothing else - no display, no OSD or anyhthing :( buggers!

So, stripped it back down again and found this (not a great pic):

A connector inside all the gubbins was hanging loose, so had to strip the monitor down further - oh joy !

Took the whole of the back piece / housing / shielding off

popped it back into place

Put the shielding back on and connected the thing up (CBA to put it all back together)

Joy (of sorts) - had a picture, but bad flickering and colour distortion - buggers x2

so, housing and shielding back off - again - and it was the same offeding plug

An absolutely shocking fit, so made sure it was fully in place, taped it down with some electrician's tape :P

Back together for the third (and final) time and wheyhay - all is good in the world again :D

"shadow" has completely gone.

Cheers :D

And yes I thought it may be of use, should anyone else need to take a monitor apart and / or have a similar problem :)

Props on solving it yourself :) Nice guide!

I don't get the first solution pic - are you slotting the credit card in a gap to move the bezel ?

Thanks :D

The possible cause was suggested on another forum and yes the credit card in the first pic is in a gap to open it up and start to remove the bezel

Cheers
