seeing that im using a dell theres no chance of overclocking, is there any upgrades that would be worth investing in to increase performance, im looking to spend no more than £300
if the dell is the one in you sig then I dont think you need to be worrying about increasing performance!
I assume the Q6600 is running at stock and the bios wont offer any overclocking facilities? If so you may get some increase using a tool which will run in windows to allow you to adjust FSB
yeah its a dell, i have the xps 720. ive tried overclocking the cpu using ntune the highest i can get it too is 2.6ghz, should i just wait until the extreme processors go down in price
I think it will be a long long time before that happens. If you really wanted to be able to overclock then couldn't you just buy a new motherboard? If i had a pre-built dell system of that spec i would just accept that i can't overclock it and enjoy it for how good it is anyway. At times it would be nice to have a non-overclockable PC that would be pretty much bullet proof
lol have you seen the dell xps 720, it is practically bullet proof solid metal case and weighs just under 6 stone ^^, btw would sli 8800gtx be a good option seeing that theres not much i can do
I would leave it just as it is for now and this £300 you have, put it to one side untill you need to build a new PC (which won't be for a while). The only thing i would consider doing is replacing the 8800 GTX with the next proper generation graphics card whenever that will be. Nothing at the moment. I don't think there is anything you could throw £300 at that will give you £300 worth of extra performance just now.
