Currently;

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 333mhz
ATI Radeon X800XT (AGP)
Crucial 2GB PC2700 333mhz (2x512 1x1gb, I know it's not running it dual channel)
MSI K7N2 Delta (nforce2) motherboard
IDE 80gb Maxtor HDD.

I know it can just about play CoD4, but is there anything I can do without spending a huge amount of money to improve performance?

The motherboard goes upto 400fsb afaik

This is about the cheapest way to upgrade, you keep your existing graphics card but it does give you the potential to upgrade to a PCI-E version easily and you might be able to do some limited overclocking as well. :)

That is the absolute cheapest way to do it but remember that the motherboard only has 2xDDR sockets and 2xDDR2 so the max from the current Ram would be 1.5gb and not in dual channel mode either. :)
