Hey guys.

Got £200 to spend and I was wondering whether I should be looking to upgrade to anything?

Obviously I want my system as up to date as possible without having to buy a whole new computer, and I will be buying any new games coming out and want them to run at max. And I also wouldn't mind a few more FPS on games like CS:Source and BF2 for example.

My rig,

AMD Dual Core x2 3800
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
X1800 XT 512MB
2gb Corsair Value RAM
Hitachi Deskstar 160GB
NEC 16x16 DVD-RW

Thanks.

everything looks pretty good there, as you dont have the money set aside for core 2 duo, or nearly enough for DX10 cards and mobos.
I'd suggest either start saving, because what you have there is pretty decent or upgrade the graphics a bit, which in my opinion wont do much, or upgrade the cpu a bit, again, wont do much.

to upgrade the CPU (if it's an AM2 mobo you currently have) then go for the AMD 4600 X2 (smallish upgrade, but under budget at £193 inc VAT)

or
to upgrade the graphics: sapphire ATi radeon x1950xt 256mb, again, a little under budget at £187(inc VAT)

aside from this, possibly your RAM, if you tell us more about it, eg PC???? and what mhz it is then we could help more there.

hope this helps a bit.

Is it overclocked? Might be worth spending some money on a decent cooler if it isn't and overclocking it a bit.

Apart from that, i think your best bet is graphics upgrade, but what you have is fairly up to date and i don't think it would be worth getting a new dx9 card with dx10 around the corner, so either wait for the price of the 8 series to drop or wait for r600 in January. I shouldn't think there will be many games between now and then that the x1800 can't cope with.

I have a similar setup and i'm managing with my 6800gt until R600 turns up or some less pricey 8 series cards appear.

not much you can do for £200, the games you play are mainly cpu limited as well, so a gpu upgrade might not be as effective as you think

i can only suggest a few things

new mouse/ keyboard
sell gpu and get a newer/faster one
bigger/ more hard drives
decent air cooler and clock your x2 up a bit (will get more fps in css etc)

Definetly stick with what you have there until you have more money to spend.

I really find it hard that you need more fps on CSS  I used to run that game on full on my old rig which was half as fast as this one :p
