After having to RMA the motherboard, I'm having a second attempt at a new build tonight and hopefully will get as far as installing operating system, drivers etc.

However, is there any particular order that stuff needs to be done with Windows 7. Obviously everyone says stay away from bundled drivers, but I'm using an SSD as boot drive - do I need to worry out anything, or will it just 'work'

It's a Gigabyte Z77-D3H motherboard if that's relevant...

leave the sata cable unplugged from the storage drive.

In the BIOS enable ACHI mode. Set boot priority to DVD the save and exit. Install OS to SSD, shutdown then connect the HDD. If it's not found you can head into computer management and find it there, format it and add a letter to the HDD

It might be wise to download the latest drivers and the BIOS. Some people are reporting issues with a gpu added to the mobo. Updating the BIOS will resolve this

Hmmm BIOS update straight away - a bit scary!

I'm assuming the unplugged SATA is to avoid it attempting to install there?

BIOS updates are easy.

Download the latest from GigabyteUK website for your board.

Extract to a USB thumb drive.

Boot into the BIOS and select Qflash.

Follow the instructions.

The mobo has a dual BIOS so if something goes wrong you have a backup. Nothing to be afraid of, Stulid has already talked you through the process.

Cool - last time I did a BIOS update was 10 years ago - was a bit more fraught then ;)
