Managed to get hold of a 2 year old JVC CH PK 470 RKSFX470/CHX500 for free :) mint condition as it was only used by my dad for 2-3 months......he didn't even have 12cds to fill the changer ;)

Going to sit down later with the manuals and have a decent read, however i've never fitted one before is there anything I should be aware of?

I'm under the impression I'll have to go and buy a faceplate to surround the head unit because my car has one of those big Ford CD6000 units in it at the moment. Also a wiring loom will need to be bought will it not? It was last fitted in a ford scorpio but i'm presuming the wiring won't be the same.

When it was fitted in the scorpio they (the fitters) had to wire around an amp, with my CD6000 being so bulky though i presume the amp is actually inside it, if not how will I be able to tell?

...... I know i'm a numpty and I could just pay £30 to get it pro fitted but I wouldn't mind learning.

Yes you'll need a dash fascia adapter for it to fit in properly.

As for connections, depends what the stereo and your focus has already.

If you've got ISO connectors (a standardised stereo connector that most manufacturers have been using for a while) on each then you're laughing, just plug and play so to speak.

If you haven't got ISO connectors at the car end of things then you can buy a converter that takes whatever connectors you do have and turns them into an ISO connector, usually cost about a tenner.

Only other thing you might need that I can think of is an adapater for the aerial, sometimes they plug into the stereo a different way so you need a plug to go over the end of the aerial connector in the car.

Cool I was covered on all sides apart from the arial, i'll check that out. Which is the generic way to to run the cd controller cable from the boot to the dash?
