Off to have a drive of a 182 on Saturday, thinking about getting one! :D

Do any specific problems come with clios? Will it fall to pieces as soon as I get it home?

I understand they need all the belts and pulleys changed at 40K, is there anything elso to be aware of? If you have had one Id apreciate any other info you can give too.

It's french so it's inherently rubbish, according to most :P

Difference in power is mainly due to the 4-2-1 manifold, the 172 has a 4-1 manifold, although I'm sure the ecu has a different map to suit.

Awesome cars, my 172 was reliable, cheap to run and never really had any probs bar a few dealer warranty sorted minor niggles. 182s are much the same. Mine took what I threw at it for a couple of years no probs and the only bills I had were some tyres and general servicing.

Enjoy your drive :)

:D I presume the servicing isnt a rip off? Did you find it rattled a lot?

Cambelt change is pricy, otherwise it's not bad.

Renault will pull your pants down, but find a decent specialist and you'll pay £80-100ish for a minor service, £150 for a major, £300 for cambelt.

Servicing every 12k or 2 years, with the belt change at 72k or 5 years, but 4 years or 60k is recommended as they've been known to go early. Major services are every 36k, so 36, 72, 108 etc.

My mates had a little trouble with his 2002 172 in the 2 or so years hes had it, wheels bearings, engine went into limp-home mode, CAT is about to snap, camshaft pulley collapsed, engine mounts have gone and a few other problems. It was back in the garage 4 times in 2 weeks after buying it. It had 40k on the clock and has been well looked after by him.

Engine mounts and chocolate gearboxes are the "normal" Clio issues. Depends how mechanically sympathetic a driver you are really.

Why did you sell yours may i ask?

If that's for me, I haven't sold it, it's a daily driver that I do about 50 miles a day in :)

The bushes in the lower engine mount can wear out quickly and cause some clunking, cheap enough to fix on the mk2 172 and 182s. They've just put the price up for the mk1 172 part though, 70 odd quid now :( Gearboxes aren't as bad as people make out, although if abused they will wear out quickly.
