Anything to be gained from a K&N filter?

If I was going for a cone filter, I'd only really consider something like a K&N Gen 2 - the cone is surrounded in a heatshield which has a cold air feed directly underneath. Made a noticeable difference on my Kent Cam'd Saxo.

For a mildly standard engine, a panel filter would more than suffice. I've used Green and K&N and they're virtually the same - go for whatever is cheapest tbh.

Regular filter wont make much difference.

Full induction kit will. It 'could' increase performance, and it will sound better. A cold air feed is vital tho. As someone else has mentioned, without a cold air feed, you'd just be sucking up hot engine air.

I fitted a new K&N cone the other week to my Celica. The old one was too small and i wasn't getting the right AFR so it was running crappy. Now the car feels gooooooooood!

Induction kits do hardly anything with turbos, if not nothing...it's all done by the intercooler. Far better with a good panel filter and decent cold air feed. Heat shields are over rated, hot air circulates around the engine bay. If an induction kit is a must then go for a fully enclosed one with a cold air feed, such as a BMC CDA or a Green Dynatwist...but both are a waste of cash that could be put towards a remap or turbo back exhaust system
Completely forgot about the intercooler. Would go for Dreamscience remap first though.

i chose pipercross because i wanted an "uprated" filter.

motorcross people use oiled foam, there is no question that it filters really well (which is the primary purpose of it).

ITG are considered to be one of the best filters out there and they are foam.

Think it depends more on what car they are fitted to. Take mine, the Fiesta ST is known to have a restrictive stock air filter system and fitting an induction kit improves this. Even though it will suck in warm air at times.
