Ok heres my proposed build for a meida centre PC to do under my LCD:

Silverstone SG06B
Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi-----------------£117.44
E5300 2.6 GHz--------------------------------£47.07
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB--------------------------£59.98
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB---------------£62.99
512MB Gigabyte HD 4550----------------------£34.47
or
Sapphire ULTIMATE HD 4650 1GB --------------£47.15
or
Sapphire HD 4670 Ultimate Edition 512MB-------£52.33

Now i was going to get a Blu-Ray drive, but because of the case i have, id need a slim line, with the cheapest being approx £90, Vs £47, is there a case a simlar style size to the SG06B that take standard size optical drives. Is there anything ive overlooked or havent included in the above build?

I think im going to ditch the whole Media Centre PC idea, as the main reason for doing it was HD video play back, but am now going to be ordering one of those Xtreamer Media Player & Streamers, does everything i want at the fraction of the price a media centre PC would cost me. Only down side is i dont get to build a PC :(

Just built a media centre with the 9300WiFi + 5300 with 2gig of ram, and it plays 1080p on my samsung 24" Perfectly. (Make sure you get the right codac's!)

Watch that the board only has 2 sata ports, so if you are planning to expand on big storage upgrades you'll need to get a PCI sata card.

Hiya Methanoid

i got a couple of questions

when you say xbmc live do you mean that is faster than the windows version ?

also i have a amd 4000E x64 dual core on a gigabyte ga-ma78gm-s2h with vista and onboard radeon 3200 graphics

i use XBMC and also the CCCP codec pack and i can not run full 1080P without either dropping frames or stuttering sound.

would one of these ion 330 mother boards play 1080p perfectly?

thanks for the help

XBMC Live has DXVA support (its Linux XBMC which also has DXVA) but Windows versions DONT.... so no point

MediaPortal also allows DXVA so is fine. Same with W7's Media Center

Your AMD problem MIGHT be due to lack of DXVA but TBH you ought to have enough grunt to not drop frames even without DXVA. I'd do some testing if I were you with Media Player Classic and Google for enabling video acceleration.

I can play 1080P MKVs on my Ion without frame drop. I am not alone! Have a look at XBMC.org where there are many posts from Asrock Ion 330 owners plus from Revo 36xx owners. I have owned the Asrock and now have the Revo (cos it will bolt nicely to back of TV so She-Wh0-Must-Be-0beyed won't even know its there!!!

what about 5.1 sound ? or even DTS, can you play them no problem ?

I do use media player classic and I believe I have video acceleration enabled !!!!
I get the feeling something strange is going on with my system
when using XMBC I drop frames
when using media player classic with the CCCP codec set I get sound lagging problems...
hmmmmmm

Built an almost the same rig but with an E8400. I use it for a media centre and as a second pc and I have to say its great. I would stick to your original plan. One thing I would add to it though is a Alpenföhn Panorama 'Low Profile' CPU Cooler they are great and you will have issues fitting a lot of coolers ( even stock) in that case, this cooler is silent and cools realy well for its size so deffo add that to the list. It also feels pretty much as fast as my main rig for doing normal tasks which is good coz slow computers annoy the hell out of me.
