Hi people,

Normally I keep upto date with the Mac rumours/facts but simply put, I haven't been for a while.

In a couple of weeks time (when I get paid) I'm probably either going to shell out for a Mac - Most probably a Mac Pro - as I've had it with Windows.

Is there anything I should be waiting for at the minute? any updates etc?

Cheers.

As I'm probably also holding out for the Mac laptop refresh which will hopefully be coming up fairly soon, I recently encountered this page when trying to find some information: MacRumours Guides. It might be of some use to you too :)

Often, I would have get it when you want it, there will always be better stuff coming out and pointless waiting for the "next" thing. Also, The MacPro recently had a slight bump to 8core, if that's your thing.

However, there's bound to be an upgrade this early June for the iMac, when the keynote will be, which may or may not sway you from going for the macpro.

Wait out till say after the keynotes (WWDC 2007) From the June of 11.

I don't think any hardware changes will be released at this WWDC, just iPhone at this one. I think new hardware will more than likely be released with Leopard and the new Santa Rosa chipsets later on in the year, but Apple is really unpredictable.

Has a euro release date for the iphone been announced yet?

Does the iPhone actually do anything except random access voicemail that other phones don't, except cost a stupid amount of money?

I praise the gods Apple has entered the phone market; it might teach the other manufacturers to create a useable GUI (Motorola, your Razr V3x is CRAP, are you listening?), but their chosen price-point is just silly.

i've had it with this machine.

I've fixed this poxy PC for the last time.

I'm gonna break it and sell the bits on eBay and order a MacPro.

Grrr - can't wait to shot of this shoddy OS

If you want to get a macbook pro, I'd advise waiting until next month before you get one. An update is due.

Thanks mate - but MacPro all the way for me :)

Hmm, Good choice with the Macpro...

As for waiting... Currently imo the Quad 2.66 is the optimum setup, stick in 4gb of Crucial ram and your laughing, the recent 8-core machine is very expensive and unless your going to be doing some serious multitasking it isnt worth it. From Macrumours and most of the benchmark reports ive read, the current Macpro motherboards chipset isnt really able to fully utilise all the 8-cores simultaneously... I will be buying an 8-core machine, but im waiting until the ¨Stoakley-Seaburg¨ chipset is released, which is likely to be towards the end of the year.

Id go and have a play with a Macpro in your local store and see how it handles, they all have the full suite of software installed and are net connected, download a nice big photo or video and have a play with it in Aperture/Photoshop or Premiere and see if you are happy with the speed.

Another couple of things to consider...

It is rumoured the next revision will have a Blu-ray writer option and more Graphics card options... I know Blu-ray will be benefical for anyone planning to do any video work. And for photo work, Aperture uses the GPU to help with processing images, so a faster Graphics card will help you there.

Also there is Leopard, which is remoured to have much better support for the 8core Macpro, which will give it a nice speed boost, id definately hold out buying until that is the pre-installed OS.

I would at least wait till the new ATi cards drop before getting my MacPro (oh I can dream). Several rumours have pointed to the R600 full length card making a home in the roomy Mac Pro.
