Anything you can do to remove scratches/scuffs off a visor?

Earlier today I noticed that the visor on my Shoei has managed to pick up a scratch about 1cm long. It's not very deep but it's right in my line of sight and it's getting on my nerves.

Is there anything that actually works when it comes to removing scratches or is it a case of buying a new visor?

Do these polish fixes have an negative effect with headlights at night?

You mean a starring effect through the visor of the headlights of oncomming traffic, reducing visibility? That's what concerned me too when reading these suggestions. In this situation I'd probably just buy a new visor for ~£25 from racevisors or thevisorshop.

I polished out scratches on my old helmet/visor with metal polish several times with no problems. In fact I even used fine wet and dry to get some deep ones out, but it takes an awful lot of polishing to get an optically clear surface again if you do that, so only recommended if you are a skint student.
