Anyway to ascertain if a windows 7 key is currently in use?

I got given a pile of computer stuff last week, included in the stuff was a OEM W7 Pro, the outer cardboard slip case has been opened but the actual plastic case is still sealed and the COA is still attached.

It's possible that the key has been used as it's obviously accessable on the COA sticker and I'd not want to mess somebodies windows up by activating it on another machine when they've not got the sticker which should have been on their case.

So is there any method I can use to tell if a key has been activated without consuming it at all?

Thanks.

It won't mess their activation up trying. Once you install the key, windows will tell you it is already in use. Otherwise anyone could steal a license just by copying down the codes in PC World.
