Hi,
is there anyway to close a program properly? when i close a program say msn or skype it logs out but still is sitting in taskbar as open window untill i click on it and close.
i find lots of programs even after you close or logout sit in taskbar or by the clock.

is this just an annoying windows thing or is there something to sort this?

thanks Ali

msn you need to right click the msn shortcut and run in vista compatibility mode to make it operate correctly which is shocking seeing as msn is microsoft and they still haven't fixed it

i make my win7 have a quick launch like xp/vista rather than the win7 default which i hate

As for notification area when you close something it is closed but the icon will stay there until you hover mouse over it

Tis the 'design' of the applications usually (wanting to stay open and logged out, so you can quickly get back in again).

If there's no option within the program itself pertaining to "quit when close the application" or something like that, then I just right click and close the apps manually.

Quite often, going to File > Exit (or similar) will actually close the app, instead of pressing the X in the top right which effectively just minimises it (Skype, MSN etc).

Kill it with Task Manager/Process Explorer. The first time you close msn it will pop up a notification saying "messenger still running" in the system tray - it's by design.
