I think i have almost all of it in 4 sections

And once it's set up, it auto updates

If you are happy with Google maps then yeah it doesn't require much to download the country. Google maps utterly sucks once you leave the main roads and footpaths so I use Mapy.cz where you can download the Openstreetmaps for all of the UK in a single button which takes up about 3GB.

You've clearly not used the app, even with the subscription you can only download rectangles.

The Tom Tom paid app (https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/navigation/mobile-apps/go-navigation-app/) allows you to download maps for offline usage. £20 a year for cars though, so it's not a free option I am afraid.
