Hi,

Ive currently got ubuntu linux on my laptop and its only running at 1200MHz when its meant to run at 1800MHz, was wondering if anyone knows of app that can set it to the right speed? like switchspeedxp for windows?

ive tried loading speedstepxp in wine but it doesnt work, changed the power management to 'never' when on ac adaptor. I dont have a feature in my BIOS to disable Enhanced Speedstep. :(

The laptop is a Dell C840.

thanks

Check the speedstep settings for that, usually when the cpu becomes stressed it ''should'' clock to full speed...

Anyhow check windows power management for speedstep settings, you can also try to disable it in bios ( perhaps you dont have enhanced speedtep but the basic version, recheck for speedstep instead of eist in bios...

You could give dell a call, afterall they should provide you with service :) .

Yeah thats what I thought - im running folding@home which uses 100% CPU and it still insists on running slower than its meant to.

Ive checked three times all around the BIOS to no avail unfortunately.

In XP it works flawlessly at the full speed (when I can get the damn thing to install that is, only running linux on it as I cant install XP anymore)
