hi

im helping my friend set up a network in his new shop, all the computers are networkd wirelessly.

the problem i've run into is that one of the PCs has a DVR card installed which is hooked up to the security cameras so that they can be viewed on that PC. it all works fine on that PC but i'm trying to find a way of allowing the other computers to view the security cameras as well.... i'm stumped

is there a way of sharing the DVR card over the network? or would i have to use somthing like remote desktop to stream it?

thanks in advance

doesn't VNC work via the internet? i'd prefer a method which just used the internal network. do software like VNC use up much resources? would the respective PC still function relatively normal?

It certainly doesn't need the internet. It's designed to work over a LAN. VNC is light on resources, seeing as it's been around for more than a decade. The local user wouldn't know that it's even in use. Read up on it.

ok thank you, reading up as we speak....

are there any other ways to do this without remotely viewing the desktop? is it possible to use one PC to access the DVR card via the network? thus allowing me to install camera viewing software on the PC's without the card??

Check the DVR software manufacturers.
We have a dedicated (probably a custom PC running Linux) CCTV system that comes with software that we can install on any PC and view the cameras over a LAN or the internet.
