I have an i5-6400, 1050Ti and 8GB of DDR4 RAM.

Is it possible for me to play Batman Arkham Knight smoothly using this setup?

I experience significant FPS drops and stutters especially when gliding around the city.
The game is playable but not really in an enjoyable state.

I thought this game had a reputation as a performance headache anyway - I'm thinking of picking it up on PS4 but didn't enjoy AO at all despite being a big fan of AA and AC. Is it worth playing?

Yes it's worth playing and is more like AA & AC. I enjoyed it despite the technical issues and particularly when I payed £9.99 for the lot.
The story is silly but it's Batman so thats fine, the only downsides for me the sheer volume of Riddler stuff which in the end I just didn't bother with and the Batmobile missions get very repetitive.

It was extremely poorly optimized at launch and from what I've heard the optimization has been improved but still leaves a lot to be desired.

I skipped Arkham Origins myself as I heard it was a bit disappointing compared to Arkham City and Arkham Asylum.

What FPS is it dropping to?

I haven't played it a lot because I just found the experience unenjoyable due to the FPS fluctuations. From what I can recall though when I was on foot the FPS was somewhere around the low 50's and when gliding it would fluctuate between 15-30 FPS. I heard that the FPS drops quite a bit too during the batmobile sections but I didn't notice anything drastic then.
