Anyway to restrict bandwith for pc's on wireless network?

My kids leech bandwith all the time, watching media on the internet, it makes my pc crawl to a standstill while im trying to play games.

Is there any option in vista, or in a router that i could buy that i could give them say, 20kb download, 5kb upload so it leaves my machine and consoles relatively free of them leeching all the bandwith?

You want a router with QOS so you can priorities the packets for gaming etc. Most Linksys routers have this as an option.. and the WRT54G models have custom firmwares that give you a heap load more control.

Actually i think i have a linksys, how do you prioritise the packets for gaming with them?

i assume he wants something he can control on his end, they could uninstall it if its on their machines

if you've got a WRT54GL, there's a Tomato firmware (viktor i think) that lets you control bandwidth from there

You could default them to 11mb instead of 54 or higher, should slow them down a bit

Just turn the wireless access point off...... it stops my kids when I want to play, they whine a little.... but hey ho!!
