Hey guys,
I just played a Sam and Max demo for 1 min and loved it! :D I now want the whole range after everyones been talking about it (sam and max, grim fandango etc.) Is there anywhere I can download these legally, or anywehere I can get them super cheap?!
thanks
Dave

You can buy sam n max, grim fandango, the dig and full throttle as a lucasarts boxset.

I got it in game for about a tenner, well worth it imo

it might be worth trying some abandonware sites, i.e. sites that host games that have been made freeware/abandonware by companies...

Abandonware isn't legal, despite what they may lead you to believe on their websites.

Abandonware doesn't really exist as no games have really been abandoned. Some devs are nice enough to release some of their old games as freeware. Revolution have released BASS (as mentioned before) and Lure of the Temptress for free. I'm pretty sure LucasArts haven't released any for free.

aye... that was what i meant in my post before it got edited (although i just noticed davey still has it quoted, so you can still read it :p).

i was tbh, under the impression that when games get released as freeware (i.e. BASS as i mentioned) it was classed as abandonware???

or is that just the hype of those type of websites

Well to me the word abandonware implies that it has been completely abandoned and there is no copyright owner. I don't know of any games where this is the case. Games have been released as freeware but the game is still owned by a company, and some engines have been released as open-source but as far as I know no actual games have (ones that were previously commercial anyway).

hmmm yeah when you think of it like that, it doesn't make sense at all.

i very seriously doubt any game has been completely abandoned by a company after its release (although i'm sure some EA bashers will disagree :p)

I'm not even sure if it's possible for a game to be abandoned unless the devs themselves specifically release it under GPL or similar license. I think the copyright will always be owned by someone.

the old auction site is your best bet i would think.

You can get Day of the Tenticle and Sam and Max as double pack. The money island series did get a boxed release but it pretty rare.

I had a session a year or so ago where i played all the lucasarts adventure games in chronological order. A quite superb set of games. Brilliant characters, story, voices....

Sadly lucasarts only ever wanted to do StarWars and the whole thing died a death, such a shame.
The whole gaming world went 3D so anything that didnt have bells and whistles on is shunned, which is a real shame.
