Hopefully I am missing something or its just how IPS panels are (old monitor is a BenQ G2420HD TN Panel) but I just cannot get it looking anything close to resembling right, windows calibration chucks up a wide gamut warning so was worried to do anything with that.

Its either oversaturated and no saturation option or setting srgb on locks it so its just WAY too bright but the color saturation looks fine.

Did I just get bottom of barrel monitor with limited setup options or are IPS panels either in your face brightness or saturation with no middle ground?

It says its the default profile in color management, if I try using the built in calibration I get a warning

"This display currently uses a wide-gamut color profile. The display color calibration will create a color profile with a conventional gamut which may be a poor fit for this display and result in the color looking distorted. Do you want to continue anyway?"

I'll have a bit more of a fiddle with it tomorrow.
