Hi all,

Was radio silence from me for the past week because I was off on a jolly to majestic Madrid courtesy of AOC!

The excuse was a meeting and range review with the product managers, account managers and some of the top brass from Phillips/AOC.

They had been working through the countries they work with day by day, they had been there for a week already when the UK rocked up and they were gonna have another week afterwards. Even though they were in a great hotel going for great meals every night and meeting loads of cool people I bet they'll be shattered after 2 weeks of it!

We rocked up late on the Tuesday evening and only had time for a meal and then straight to bed as had a real "tough" day of 4 hours of presentations to go through on the Wednesday.

There started off with a bit about of information about the company and how many of the panels manufactured by the parent company are used in theirs and other brand's monitors. Currently around 30% of the panels in the entire world sold each year are made by TPV, (them being AOC's parent company). The AOC brand was bought by "TPV Technology Ltd" around 1990. 20% of the panels made by TPV are used in their own brands of monitors. AOC is now 50 years old and is sold in 55 countries. Being the number 1 monitor brand in around 10.

First we sat through the Phillips/AOC professional range presentation and although they are not a gaming brand their professional range was tasty.

Their range can be broken down into 5 groups:

• Essential-Line
• Style Line
• Basic Line
• Value Line

We don't list all of them at OCUK because it isn't really for our customers. They had some great features like a pop up webcam for face recognition, and other "officey features" for people using the monitors for work. There was also a couple of monitors designed by Ferdinand Porsche. All 60Hz and all looking good but in an understated office desk way.

What you want though is SPEED and the current and upcoming AOC monitors are bringing it at great pricing:

All their FreeSync monitors should work with NVIDIA cards to varying degrees, but to get the official “Gsync compatible” badge they must be certified by NVIDIA themselves and I don’t believe any have been yet

Yeah it was showcased but it seemed like it was going to be later this year rather than sooner, if memory serves me right. Q3/Q4 that is!

Looked tasty as did all the Phillips monitors.

They have a more gaming (albeit "gaming lite" -75Hz etc) range coming soon™. They'll sit quite nicely at the mid-top end of entry level gaming monitors though.

Mmm, at circa £2K it's going to be a VERY hard sell against the just announced Acer CG437K @ £1500! They've taken far too long getting this monitor to market, so much so that if your £2K price prediction is accurate, it's DOA before it's even released! And you can bet the Asus variant is going to be far more expensive than AOC's!

There is certainly a consumer who wants this monitor, but most are going to run a mile at that price tag.

Could be 2K EUR which helps a bit and take all these figures with a pinch of salt!

I also am confused why they even put a gsync module in there, Freesync 2 would have been fine with both nvidia and radeon gpu's.

I would guess it's because this monitor has been in development for literally YEARS, long before they would have known Nvidia were going to allow Freesync to be compatible with their GPUs. Perhaps by the time they DID know this, they already had the monitor engineered with the G-Sync v2 module, so reverting to Freesync would have seen all that effort go to waste. But this is of course pure speculation.

Could it be to reduce the input lag on what is a 200Hz panel? Not sure if there is much of a difference between FreeSync and G-Sync when it comes to it. More speculation!

I'm going to find the PM's details out and ask him directly. I got AOC/Phillips Vice President's business card in Madrid but not the European product manager!

I'll tap him up for details, contact the product manager and see if I can find anything more out!

Maybe I am a bit of an oddball but to me this monitor is perfect for single player gaming.
Good panel, correct hdr implementation (if it has the same as the Philips 328P6VUBREB one).
And big enough so that I dont need a second monitor when working.
I know its not high refresh rate but at 4k and for the games I play I dont think it would matter much .
