Hi,

I made the black friday plunge and bought an additional 2x AOC Q2577PWQs which arrived on Friday.

Today I have set up 2 of three of them up on my Duronic 253 monitor stand and they look great except that only one of them is in 2560x1440 - one of them is in 1920x1080 and I cannot get that to change to a higher res :()

I'll explain my setup.
X79 board.... see sig..
The gpus are 2x eVGA GTX 780s Hydro Copper Classifieds. I have a third one waiting to go into the rig, but I'm going to see how wide screen gaming goes with 2 of them first.

The main monitor which is connected via a dual link DVI cable to the DVI port on the monitor and works great, however the other is connected via a HDMI to DVI-D cable bought off ebay which was working fine on a lower resolution monitor which was in place before my upgrade.

What am I doing wrong?

Tatty

I really would try using 3 DVI connections (your cards support it), why are you trying to use one with HDMI? You know with surround you are not limited to plugging all the monitors into a single card.

over the 2 gfx cards I have 2x DVI-D and 2x DVI-I ports.

presently the only port that is working correctly is the DVI-D port from the primary card. The HDMI out on the second card, which I'm connecting to the DVI input of the monitor seems to be constrained to 1920x1080 and below!

I have 3 screens in total and I want all 3 configured to be 2560x1440 and then enable NVidia surround.

What do I need to get to get this working at the screens native resolution of 1440P? I'd no appreciation that a HDMI (or at least the ones on eVGAs GTX 780s) port might not support 1440P, which appears to be the case :(

The DVI-I on the primary card and the 2 DVI ports on the secondary display nothing using a DVI cable? That sounds very wrong. I'm running almost exactly the same setup and it was literally plug-n-play.

No - As per the screen shot, I've only got monitors connected presently. one via the DVI-D port on the primary GPU (to a DVI-D port on the centre monitor) and a second one connected via a HDMI port on the secondary GPU (to the DVI port on the left monitor)
I have a 3rd identical monitor which has arrived today - I could only buy 2x monitors as part of the Black Friday deal so had to order it from elsewhere....

The my rig doesn;t fit under my desk so it is at the end of the table, requiring 3m cables - I only have 3 of them and they are currently
1x DVI-D dual link to DVI-D
2x HDMI to DVI-D

I've just bought 2x3m DVI-D to DVI-D cables from elsewhere to see if that will do the job.

Hi, some adapter and DVI cable can also only support up to 1080p. Do your adapter/cable have 24+5 pins which are required for 2500 resolution? At the following link you can find NVIDIAs surround config tool, there you have to enter your specs and it will show you which ports you will need to use for this. For surround you can not just use the connectors you would like to use, mostly there is a rule which need to get used. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/surround/system-requirements

HDMI won't do 1440p.

You need Displayport or Dual Link DVI.

Not all the ports on your GPUs are necessarily Dual Link DVI ports, some may only support Single Link.

If you are running SLI you need all monitors plugged in to a single GPU for SLI to work correctly.

Displayport should be your preferred connection method.

cheers for the link. I see that the DVI ports seem to show as being the most capable.

I've got the setup working in 3x1080p at the moment. The comment which rtho782 made about HDMI certainly stands up at the moment. I've got 2xDVI dual link cables coming tomorrow - I'll feed back if that improves things at all.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Your GPUs and monitors do have Displayport, so consider that as well.

Will do :)

I've bought Displayport cables in the past and they've felt cheap and shoddily manufactured - ultimately breaking, hence I have none long enough - it's put me off using them, but if the DVI-D and DVI-I doesn't work, rest assured, I will be buying 3m Displayport cables.

Can you recommend any in particular?

I bought 2x display port cables off a rival site as OCUK had no 3m ones in stock :(

They're coming tomorrow :)

I'm delighted with the monitors now that I've got them all lined up - really sharp and lovely colour. All I need to do now is switch out the HDMI cables for Displayport and then I should be able to see 3x1440P rather than 3x1080P

I'll put some pictures up and details of which ports I've used, when I get it working.

#UPDATE#

I received the displayport 1.2 cables and have plugged:

Screen 1 (left) - GPU in Slot 1, Displayport
Screen 2 (centre) - GPU in slot 1, Dual Link DVI to DVI on monitor
Screen 3 (right) - GPU in slot 2, displayport

All resolve fine @ 1440P and even better, when enabling NVidia surround I now get a desktop @ 7680x1440.

World of tanks works, but is a little slow, so I've dropped the resolution down to 5760x1080 and it rocks along nicely - really looks impressive.

My only disappointment with the monitors has been that there is a border within the Bezel, making a total unusable space of around 5mm. Until you power up the monitor it looks like there's only a bezel of 1-2 mm which is a little misleading, but it's not a dealbreaker. For my casual gaming needs, it's fine.

Overall I'm delighted with the setup and I feel ready to upgrade my GPUs when Pascal comes out. In the meantime I've got a spare 780 Hydro Classy Copper to include so I might try that :)
