AOC U2868PQU -Display Port Issue

I am trying to connect my R9 290x to the AOC using the Display port. I can boot up the system if I plug both HDMI, and DP into the same gpu, but if I try to boot the system up with just the DP connected it says "input not support"
has anyone came across this issue before, and hopefully solved it?

There are known issues with the 290 and that monitor - it should be possible to get it to run at 30Hz ok on DP, not sure if it ever got solved - AMD were working on an update.
