Lately me and a friend have been getting back into older games such as the AoE series. Issue we are having though is that when we connect to each other using Voobly, we get about 5-10mins into a game and then it says we have both disconnected. We are using Voobly as GameSpy Arcade will not connect us at all, Voobly actually gets us into the game and all seems well until we disconnect.

We both have the same version of the game and we have the Voobly patches it askes for. Its almost like Voobly goes to sleep or something, I know thats not what is happening, but thats the only way I can explain it.

So yea, any ideas?

That's an artefact of the way their networking system was done.

Try GameRanger. It's where the majority of people play Age of Empires II.

Admittedly I haven't played AOEII for about 1yr, but when I played pretty much everyone was on voobly. I never had any problems with it and I played A LOT :p

How many times have you been disconnected OP?

A good third of the ~2600 active lobbies on Gameranger are AOE1, 2 or 3. You shouldn't have a problem finding someone to play on there with 38,500 users online :p

Every game we tried for the last few days of trying.

I think there is a community to play with, but from what i see its quite immature on the chat rooms.

I personally would find a few friends that play the game and play for bragging rights only. :P
