Hi

Installed a new pc at my brother's the other day. He's on AOL and the old PC connects fine on a Bt Voyager 190 ADSL. When i plug the new pc into the same modem/router/cables etc it won't connect. I connect the old one back up and it works fine. Do AOL need to enable each MAC address?

The old computer has aol 9 on it. I could only get aol 8 on the new one as i didn't have a cd for 9.

Any advice on what I need to do to get the new computer working? Both PCs have XP Home installed and network cards are working fine.

thanks

I connected up all the cables and opened internet explorer but it didn't work. I have not tried anything other than that. It said it had limited connectivity I think.

I'm used to virgin / cable. Just plug in the modem / router and away you go. I thought it would be the same with AOL and was really suprised i had problems.

I've downloadd aol9 install and will try that next week but it's only 400k - I'm hoping it will be clever enough to connect to aol and download the rest of the software.

Any tips appreciated

Yeah AOL doesn't use Internet Explorer, its got its own browser, you have to use the AOL 8/9 to get on, once you Double click the AOL icon it starts to sign in.

You could also try a manual connection so you can use Internet Explorer (so theres no need for the AOL software at all), guide here in my very old thread i started when i was on AOL. :)
