Just woke up this morning to find that my AOL email has sent spam e-mails to my entire address book.

Always up to date on my Virus, Spyware software etc, so don't believe it's an issue with my Computer.

But I recieved an e-mail on a different account from another AOL user who has sent the exact same spam e-mail to his entire address book.

Have the AOL servers been compromised at any point? Where hackers have stolen lots of usernames and passwords?

Just done a search on Twitter for terms: AOL, Spam, Hacked.

Here are a selection of them all posted within the last few hours:

"I think aol email got hacked, I just got 2 spam messages from aol addresses(verified, I checked the message source) inside of a minute."

"Also, I apologize if you got a spam e-mail from my aol account. Attempting to rectify this situation."

"SPAM Alert!: It seems that my old AOL account has been hacked or jacked by spammers. If you don’t receive an emai..."

"Hacker sent 1,000s of SPAM emails to my AOL addess book last nite, Apologies to all who received the spam."

"yes! I got a spam email from you. Same happened to my aol account. What do I do? Change password?"

"Just got honest-to-goodness spam from an AOL user, actually sent via AOL's network. Ah, that takes me back... "

"Anybody heard of a #spam-attac against #aol ? my inbox is crammed with unknown and spammy aol messages"

"Had my AOL email hacked. Sorry if you got an email from me about Canadian Pharmaceuticals. Delete it. I do love them Canadians though"

"If you get an email from me *deleted*@aol.com....delete it Someone hacked my email and has been sending s*** out!!!! "

seen this happen to a few users,

several of my customers had the same issue about 3/4 weeks ago.

could be malware on your PC...

run combofix.exe over your amchine then make sure your AV is up to date and working

Personally think it's a problem with security at AOL rather than my own PC.

But of course I will run a check.

Just seems too big of a coincidence that all those Twitter posts were all made at the same time....

You mean the company that installs spyware on you pc isn't secure?!? Never saw that one coming :/
