Right i phoned AOL yesterday to get regraded to 2mb, as now the checkers at Prodigy and Sam Knows are saying i can get 2mb now, anyway today when i connected its saying AOL is connected at 2.2mb, and the 2x green arrows for the modem are showing as me synching 2272kbps Rx, with a 288 Tx so thats 2mb, yet its still 1mb i am on, as ive ran speed tests and they are showing about 1.29k download speed and saying 1.01mb.

Now phoned AOL they said its because they have upgraded my package as i only phoned around 11am yesterday, and now BT need to activate it for the 2mb which could take 48hrs, so could be tomorrow, but if thats the case why is my modem saying its now synching at 2272kbps 2mb, instead of 1152kbps like it was yesterday 1mb (the 2x green arrows for the BT Voyager 105 adsl modem)

When i regraded they said i would be on a new 12 month contract and that would pop up to agree to when i sign on (using the software) when its all done, but i am not using the software so could that be why, as i have had no agreement coming up, so do you think i will need to install the software so i get the new terms and conditions popping up so that once i accept i will get the 2mb, or could that still be the case that BT need to activate it still, but i aint a clue as the arrows are showing me synching at 2272kpbs which would indicate that it is already at 2mb as i said, so could be i cant actually get more than 1mb as im still on that, and the checkers are wrong.

Thanks. :)

Nope. If you couldn't get more than 1Mbps and you'd been regraded, you wouldn't have a connection.

If it's synching at 2272 kbps, BT have done their bit - what do you get from a BT Speedtest?

Yeah thats what i thought, ive just been over a mates and he rekons ill need to install the AOL software so i can accept the terms and conditions for the new 12 month contract then its should allow me the full 2mb, as he says its like a signature thing or something, as if im synching at 2mb then im on 2mb, and once i accept the terms and condtions through the software it should allow me the 2mb.

The Tiscali checker which i sometimes use as its pretty accurate for me says my bandwidth is 1024.50kbps which means i can download at 128.06kbs from their servers, and thats about right give or take a few for 1mb as thast what i get around when synching at 1152kbs (1mb).

Im still on my 1mb as that hasn't changed, just my modem saying im synching at 2272kbs has changed, and when i connect the bubble saying connected at 2.2mb, so it looks like ill have to install the software so i can agree to the new terms and conditions, as i think its a bit odd that if i cant get 2mb, then why am i synching at 2272kbps (2mb speeds).

The speedtester at BT downlaods a file and then give these results.

Downloaded in 985 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.

BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service:

For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps.
For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps.
For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps.
For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps

It also says it varies due to network traffic etc.... which would be right as when i ran it earlier it was only downloaded in 681kbps or something.

It looks like BT have done their thing as you say, but now i need to install the AOL software so i can agree to the new terms and conditions before it lets me have it.

I've never had to agree to any upgrades in the past from AOL. For me as soon as i was syncing at the new speed, it took about a day or so before i saw the real effects come into place.

Try first thing in the morning when it's not quite so busy on a decent fast UK server. :)

Right well ive put the software on, and agreed to the new 12 month, and im still on 1mb speeds even though im synching at 2272kbps (2mb).

Also which ive just noticed, when it logs on and the AOL site loads, its still saying AOL Silver, should be gold as thats what ive gone on yes ?

@OzZie the regrade to gold is a new 12 month contract, thats why i have to agree to it through the software, when i was on 512k, and then went to 1mb, that wasn't so i just connected at 1mb one day and thats what i got 1mb speeds from the off, im not to bothered about the new 12month contract as i only migrated across in June, so the new 12 month contract has only added another couple of months onto the one i was already on. :)

Just been into my billing and checked my price plan, its still saying im on Silver Legacy 2005, so seen as ive only agreed to the new contract about an hr ago, i may have to wait for it to be switched to the Gold.

EDIT:Oops should have edited last post, sorry. :( :p :D

Just remembered about an Emial i received yesterday from them that says this.

We will arrange for your telephone line to be re-graded by our network provider to support AOL Broadband Gold. After your line has been re-graded, in approximately seven working days, you will be able to use your AOL Broadband Service to access all the exciting broadband features on AOL. The switch is automatic; you don't need to do anything and you can continue to use AOL Broadband Platinum in the meantime.

So it has been regraded, and to me that says i need to wait about 7 days before i am on Gold and using the proper 2mb, as i ma still on the Silver package yes ?

Can anyone see that being the case ?

Thanks. :)

Update.

Well panic over. :D

I just phoned AOL again this morning as im still getting 1mb speeds, and when i checked my package it still says im on AOL Silver (the 1mb), so he checked my account and said thats all fine your due to be activated on the Gold 2mb on Monday 17th, i just said right i just thought there was a problem as it was saying i was connecting at 2.2mb, but im still getting 1mb speeds, and im still on the Silver, and he said thats fine you just continue using your 1mb as normal, and the Gold 2mb service gets activated on Monday. :D

Result.
