as some of you know i recently signed up for max.

todays the 11th day and having been syncing between 4 and 6 mbit for 2 weeks, im now locked to this

ADSL Firmware Version A2pB022c.d20e Modem Status Connected DownStream Connection Speed 1696 kbps UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

but im only downloading at half that (suprise surprise).

any ideas what i can do ?

If your connection speed is varying between 1.6 - 6mbit, Id suggest you check that you have filters on all your phone sockets, and if your using really cheap filters, try switching to better ones.

ADSL max, monitors your connection status, and if you regularly drop to a lower sync rate, it resets your BRAS, and you can get very bad transfer speeds.

If your modem/router provides stats, check out your noise margin, and see how many dB's of margin you have (downstream's the important one, upstream being much slower should have a lot of spare margin).

If you notice your Synced up at a slow speed, but you have plenty of margin, I'd always suggest trying to resync.. Less risk of your BRAS being lowered if you reconnect at a good speed.

Poor filters can cause your modem to lose sync when you make regualar analog phone calls (or someone calls you). When this happens the modem virtually always ends up at a lower sync.

Shortest distance to the BT Master socket is good too, even if that means a longer ethernet or usb cable.

I know you weren't asking.. but when your download speed is considerably below your sync rate, its often the 'BRAS' rate thats causing it. BRAS is recalculated pretty much every day these days, so after you get a high sync rate, your bras will restore fairly quickly. (BT's own ADSL speedcheck web page even tells you your current BRAS.. its a nice tool)
